Michael spent two decades in the motor trade working with dealerships in Edinburgh and Perthshire. He was a Director and Council Member of the Scottish Motor Trade Association for ten years, during which time he served as Chairman of the Complaints Committee handling consumer complaints against association members.
Michael studied law at Edinburgh Napier University and following graduation completed his postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Stirling. Michael specialises in Private Client Law, with a client portfolio stretching from the Scottish Borders to Aberdeen. Michael is a member of the of the Society of Will Writers and Estate Planning Practitioners.
Recently Michael has represented clients in a series of cases involving Mortgage Pro UK Ltd an English based mortgage broker.
The cases all involved spurious claims against his clients, all of which were rejected by the Courts, with costs being awarded against the pursuers.
Michael has been involved with a number of licensing cases under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, successfully appealing cases in both the Sheriff Court and at the High Court of Justiciary . He has also recently successfully appealed cases brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act 1982.
Michael has represented clients on Employment issues and is currently providing information relating to Business Secretary Vince Cables Investigation into ‘zero-hours’ contracts.
Michael has a specific interest in this subject having represented the employees of a major car rental firm in their battle for a fair contract of employment, he has also represented party interests at Employment Tribunals
